Bridge upgrades in Woombye
If you’ve driven under the Blackall Street rail bridge lately, you might’ve noticed it’s had a bit of a facelift! Queensland Rail crews were on the job recently, swapping out hundreds of old timber sleepers for new composite ones — tougher, greener, and built to last.
It’s nice to see some long-term investment in our local rail lines. See pics right.
As you can see in the photos the works included replacing approximately 300 existing transoms (bridge sleepers), with durable composite type transoms. The composite type transoms are designed as an alternative to traditional hardwood timber for bridge transoms, offering a more durable, sustainable and long-lasting option.
This is part of a broader program of works to invest in sustainable options to maintain our rail infrastructure and corridor, to ensure we keep passengers, freight and the economy moving. The road was closed to all traffic between 7pm Friday 20 and 9pm Sunday 22 June, with a traffic diversion in place. The work also required a planned track closure from 20 to 22 June.
