Snakes turn strong season  into Grand Finals feast

Woombye Snakes player Luke Smith cuts through the Nambour Yandina United defence earlier this season.

Woombye Snakes Football Club has once again stamped its authority on the FQPL 3 Sunshine Coast competition, dominating across all four senior grades in 2025.

The Snakes are the only club to have all four senior grades represented in the finals series — with three of those teams now through to the grand finals Senior Men, Senior Women and Under 23 Men. “It’s an incredible achievement for a little club like ours,” said club president David Gaskin. “To have every senior grade in the finals, and three in the grand finals, shows the depth of talent and spirit we have here.”

The success doesn’t end there. Woombye will also contest two more grand finals, with the Under 18 Division 1 side and the Men’s Division 3 team both in the hunt for silverware.

For a club proud of its community roots, the results underline both its strong culture and its role as a breeding ground for football talent.

“From the youngest juniors right through to our seniors, we’ve built something special at Woombye,” Mr Gaskin said. “We’re about community first and foremost, and I think that’s why we continue to punch above our weight.”

The Snakes’ remarkable consistency has become a hallmark of the club, with finals appearances across multiple divisions now an annual occurrence.

“This season has been a real credit to our players, coaches, volunteers and supporters,” Mr Gaskin said. “The whole blue, white and red family has played a part.”

Fans are being urged to rally behind the teams as Woombye looks to turn another dominant season into a trophy haul. “We’d love to see as many people as possible out there cheering us on,” Mr Gaskin said. “The players feed off that support – it really makes a difference on the big stage, especially at a neutral venue.”

Meanwhile, local business Revival Recovery Room at Yandina has generously offered all teams in Grand Finals a recovery session in their facility so they can prepare for Saturday.

Grand Finals this Saturday

The grand finals will be held at Sunshine Coast Stadium, Kawana, this Saturday, 6 September where FQPL Sunshine Coast Women and Men, FQPL U23s and junior divisions take to the pitch.

The Snakes Senior Men beat Noosa 1-nil  in the preliminary final and will play Caloundra FC in the grand final at 5pm. The U23 Men beat Buderim 1 nil and will play Noosa Lions in the grand final at noon. Woombye Snakes Senior Women will play Maroochydore in the grand final after beating Noosa in the preliminary final.
