Nambour commuters some of the big winners from LNP’s permanent 50 cent fares

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg with Nicklin MP, Marty Hunt.

Last week marked one year since the Crisafulli Government made Queensland’s cheapest public transport fares permanent.

“For commuters in our region - Nambour, Woombye or Palmwoods - the impact has been enormous,” Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt said.

“For a 48‑week, five‑day commuter using our rail line to travel to Brisbane, the estimated savings compared with the former zoned fare structure is more than $9,039. That’s real money back in local's pockets.”

The LNP’s Permanent 50 Cent Fares are part of the Crisafulli Government’s cost of living relief, delivering $423 million in savings across Queensland and driving up public transport patronage over the past year.

Under the LNP’s Permanent 50 Cent Fares, public transport patronage has surged 20% on the Sunshine Coast, as Queenslanders chalk up 200 million trips in the past year.

In 12 months, Queenslanders have made more than 54 million train trips, more than 122 million bus trips, and more than 14 million tram trips.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the Crisafulli Government was delivering cost of living relief Queenslanders could rely on.

“The LNP’s Permanent 50 Cent Fares are relief you can rely on, they’re permanent cost of living support for Queenslanders,” Minister Mickelberg said.

“We’re doing our bit to help with the pressures facing Queenslanders, with this permanent relief that is saving families thousands of dollars a year."
