Arioso brings baroque film scores to Eudlo Hall
Arioso Chamber Ensemble will present From Handel to Hollywood at Eudlo Hall on Saturday May 24, showcasing timeless baroque music from the silver screen.
The program, titled From Handel to Hollywood, features baroque pieces that have scored films such as Master and Commander, Pride and Prejudice, The English Patient and Boogie Nights. Audiences will hear Henry Purcell, Boccherini and Handel in stirring arrangements that recall iconic screen moments.
Arioso Chamber Ensemble brings together Judit Molnár (soprano), Margaret Caley (baroque violin), Frank Fodor (baroque viola), Shannon Scheltema (viola da gamba) and Janet Brewer (harpsichord).
The group is renowned for historically informed performances that engage modern audiences, regularly touring from Maryborough to Armidale.
Director and harpsichordist Janet Brewer says the concert invites listeners to rediscover baroque melodies in a new light. “These works have a cinematic resonance that connects past and present,” she said. “Our goal is to celebrate the enduring power of baroque music in theatre and film.”
The concert starts at 3pm at Eudlo Hall, 19 Rosebed Street. Tickets are $40 full, $35 concession and $15 for school students. Tickets at www.ariosochamberensemble.com/concerts or at the door (cash only).
