Outspoken to host Hugh White in Maleny

Australia’s foremost defence strategist returns to the hinterland on June 19 for a thought-provoking night at Outspoken.

Professor Hugh White AO will speak at the Maleny Community Centre about his June 2025 Quarterly Essay, Hard New World, Our Post-American Future. In the essay, he explores today’s major global threats—including the US–China rivalry, conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, and how Australia should respond to a shifting world order.

A former Deputy Secretary for Strategy in the Department of Defence, Mr White is now Emeritus Professor at the Australian National University. He has long been a sharp critic of AUKUS, and his books Sleepwalk to War and How to Defend Australia have stirred national debate on defence policy.

The evening will also feature Joanna Jenkins, whose debut novel How To Kill A Client was a best-seller. She returns to introduce her new crime novel, The Bluff.

Tickets $27.50, students $18 | www.outspokenmaleny.com | www.trybooking.com/DAVHS
