Zonta honours decades of service to women and community

The Zonta Club of Blackall Range has recognised the outstanding contribution of long-serving members, including one volunteer who has devoted more than four decades to supporting women and girls.

At the club’s meeting last week, president Margy Henderson presented a special award to Judi Ross-Smith recognising 41 years of service through Zonta.

Ms Ross-Smith began her Zonta journey in Armidale, NSW, and has been a member of the Blackall Range club since 2015.

The club also recently recognised other long-serving members, with awards marking between seven and 28 years of service to the organisation and the wider community.

The awards reflected years of volunteering, fundraising and advocacy aimed at improving the lives of women and girls locally and internationally.

Members have contributed through projects, scholarships, community partnerships and practical support for families in need.

“With members from right across the Blackall Range, from Nambour to Witta, the Club is proud to honour these remarkable volunteers – including founding members,” Ms Henderson said.

“Their enduring service reflects the spirit of Zonta and demonstrates the power of people working together for community and human rights.”

Recipients were thanked for their passion and generosity, with the club saying their commitment had helped strengthen Zonta’s impact and inspire future generations of members.

The Zonta Club of Blackall Range meets monthly in Maleny and welcomes guests and new members interested in supporting its work for women and girls.
