Bli Bli bridge upgrade proposed planning layout released
The Queensland Government has released the proposed planning layout for the future upgrade of David Low Bridge (known locally as Bli Bli bridge) on Maroochydore-Noosa Road (David Low Way) in Bli Bli.
The proposed plan includes a new bridge to the north of the existing bridge. Key features include a wider bridge deck with two lanes of traffic (one in each direction), road shoulders and dedicated active transport facilities.
Active transport improvements include a wider path for pedestrians, bike riders and mobility device users located on the southern side of the new bridge with active transport paths connecting to Bli Bli village and Muller Park.
The design layout includes the ability to convert the bridge to four lanes should traffic demands require this in the future.
Community feedback is welcome on the proposed planning option to inform the next stages of planning.
The existing bridge will be operational for the foreseeable future, supported by regular inspections and maintenance under the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ routine structures maintenance program. This allows continued safe operation for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and waterway users.
Timeframes for further planning, design and construction of the new bridge have not been determined at this time and will be considered as project priorities and funding needs are reviewed.
Project priorities and funding needs are reviewed and re-evaluated regularly by the department to ensure that as many positive road outcomes as possible are obtained within a finite budget.
The community will be kept informed on future project phases.
