Petrie Creek BushCare News with Lauren Hughes
Did you know the section of Petrie Creek around Nambour’s Model Railway Park has been getting regular makeovers since 2013? This unassumingly beautiful creekside habitat is affectionately known as ‘Namba Creek’ to the enthusiastic team of BushCare volunteers who plant natives and weed out the invasives here on a monthly basis.
For the first makeover of 2026, the team planted 70 plants to help stabilise the creekbank, revegetate areas cleared by people sleeping rough and provide habitat for native wildlife.
Local BushCarers have also been busy at the ‘Florabunda Pocket’ site near Victory Park in Woombye. We are hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive local platypus again this year while weeding, planting and chin wagging around this lush and secluded section of Petrie Creek.
For anyone who’d like to be a part of the friendly BushCare crew and feel the great satisfaction, please join us for an upcoming makeover (working bee) at: Namba Creek on Saturday 21 February from 7am. Access is through the main gate of the Model Rail Park off Florence St Nambour.
