Business and community groups collaborate for a stronger Yandina

Business Yandina Vice President John O’Leary, with Treasurer Dennis Sutton, and Heather Sutton.

In honour of small business month, Business Yandina hosted a networking event on May 19 at the Yandina Hotel which was attended by a number of Yandina community groups and organisations.

Vice President John O’Leary welcomed the gathering which included Business Yandina board members and general members, as well as representatives from Yandina Street Fair, Yandina Country Music Association, Yandina Markets, Yandina Soccer Club, Yandina Community Gardens, YADCA, and Member for Nicklin, Marty Hunt MP.

Mr O’Leary talked about the importance of bringing small business and community groups together to work with and support each other.

“Strong community builds strong business and strong business build strong community,” he said.

“Yandina is such a close and strong community with a history of good relationships between business and community groups. We would love to build on that and keep it going into the future. Yandina is a town that has everything going for it.”

Business Yandina treasurer, Dennis Sutton also addressed the meeting with his financial report.

“We are in the midst of a membership drive right now and we would like to see more Yandina businesses, clubs and sporting groups join our Chamber,” he said.

“This is how our broader community will thrive.”

Representatives from each of the community groups also spoke about their own organisations and their role in the community.

Marty Hunt addressed the group and paid tribute to the efforts of the Chamber and community organisations, and the volunteers who make their work possible.

He also launched the Above & Beyond Awards and invited attendees to start thinking about nominations for the inaugural awards, which will be presented at a ceremony in Nambour in August.
