Businesses urged to seize event opportunities
Sunshine Coast Council economic development project officer Jorja Holmes says there are more events on the horizon.
Nambour businesses are being encouraged to think strategically – and collaboratively – as a busy events season approaches.
Sunshine Coast Council economic development project officer Jorja Holmes told the Chamber's April gathering that events across the region presented a major opportunity, but only for those prepared to plan. “Start with outcomes, not just the event,” she said. “What does success look like for you and your business?”
Ms Holmes said too many operators focused on the event itself, rather than defining clear goals such as attracting new customers, increasing spending or building brand awareness. “Everything else you do should support that goal,” she said.
Understanding the audience was also critical, with different events attracting different demographics. “Make sure your offering matches that demographic,” she said.
She urged businesses to ensure both their physical and digital presence were ready to capture visitors. “Your storefront is your first impression,” she said. “Make sure you’re clearly showcasing that you’re open, relevant and worth stopping for.”
That included clean, engaging shopfronts, clear signage and updated online information. “People will look you up before they arrive,” she said. “Is it clear what you offer and how they can engage with you?”
Collaboration between businesses could further boost results. “Events are better together,” she said. “Don’t be scared to work with other businesses. And don’t forget about the locals. They’re the ones who support you year-round.”
With more events on the horizon, Ms Holmes said now was the time for Nambour to act.
“This is a turning point for Nambour,” she said. “I really want you to be part of it.”
