The Nambour Showgrounds will become a playground for barbecue lovers and thrillseekers when the Smoked Festival makes its Sunshine Coast debut on March 19–20 next year.
Capricorn Events representative Jake Black told the Nambour Chamber of Commerce the event would bring together barbecue competitions, bull riding, amusement rides, a beer festival and Fred Brophy's famous boxing troupe.
The festival will also feature cooking demonstrations, butcher challenges, competitive eating and a trade expo.
Mr Black said organisers had been searching for a second home for the festival following a successful first event in Rockhampton.
“After our successful first event in Rocky and me being based on the Sunshine Coast, Nambour or Sunshine Coast fit and then the facilities here at Nambour fit even better,” he said.
He praised the support received from the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show Society and Councillor David Law in bringing the event to town.
The beer festival is expected to involve local and interstate businesses, with organisers also exploring opportunities for Sunshine Coast producers to participate.
Mr Black encouraged Nambour businesses to get involved through sponsorships, promotional activities and other partnerships.
“We're just really excited to bring this event to the Sunshine Coast and Nambour,” he said.
