Cranes & scaffolding signal major Nambour works

Major streetscape works under the Nambour Place Plan are expected to begin in July, with local businesses working alongside Sunshine Coast Council’s Economic Development team and the Nambour Place Making team to ensure as smooth a transition as possible during the Currie Street, Mill Street and Howard Street intersection upgrade.

“We worked really hard with all levels of government last year to secure the funding for this project,” Nambour Groups chair Rhonda Billett said.

“In collaboration with the State Government and Sunshine Coast Council, it is all about to commence and whilst we have endured a lot of delays with the upgrade, it is now at tender stage, so the community should see boots on the ground working on this project by July 2026.

“Council’s Place Making team has confirmed that the job will take approximately seven months to complete and Sunshine Coast Council teams will provide all updates regarding the project.”

Sunshine Coast Council Place Project Officer Dan Jones told the Nambour Groups meeting that further information about timing, methodology and potential impacts to businesses would be provided once a contractor was selected.

He said the project and delivery teams associated with the works would work closely with businesses such as The Namba, Royal George, C-Square, Tram Co and others to mitigate disruption as much as possible, particularly over the busy festive period.

“We are in very significant economic times currently with Nambour but we are still pushing for more,” Ms Billett said.

“I’m chasing funding from all levels of government for the 1C Currie Street beautification project, that stretches from Maud Street down to Price Street.

“While I’m not certain where all of the budget will come from to fund this, I’m confident in time we will get this done for Nambour, hopefully sooner than later.”

Ms Billett said the C-Square $21.5 million makeover was on track for completion by November, while the approximately $50 million residential development on the corner of Currie and Bury streets had reached approved status.

There are also other residential development applications on the fringes of the Nambour CBD.

“These investors are the leaders who will breathe the new life into Nambour that we have been craving for decades,” Ms Billett said.

“It is not very often we see cranes and scaffolding in Nambour, however that has now changed.

“We are seeing it with Will Phillips and his team from Sandran and their investment in C-Square. They were the first investors to strategically move Nambour forward and now we are seeing the flow-on effects from that bold investor move. It’s exciting times.

“From a Nambour Groups perspective, we are certainly feeling the growing pains with these fast-moving CBD changes, however we are all doing our bit as volunteers to get things done for Nambour.

“I Am Nambour is looking to stretch its online offerings further, the Nambour Chamber of Commerce recently received a $6000 grant to support its organisation and the Nambour business community further, and Nambour Tram Co is exploring further online ways to keep the community better informed on its project building status and roll-out.

“There are lots of moving parts with our Nambour Groups and they are all volunteers who give a lot. We are so fortunate to have these community-spirited people in our postcode.”

High hopes: Cranes and scaffolding are back in Nambour.
