Premier makes surprise visit to Everyday Foundation in Nambour
Premier David Crisafulli made an unannounced visit to The Everyday Foundation in Nambour on Thursday (22 October) to see the charity’s new centre.
The visit came about six weeks after the foundation officially opened its expanded low-cost food outlet on Thursday 10 September. The Queensland Government contributed $1 million to the project, and Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt cut the ribbon.
The Gazette reported in 2024 that both the LNP and Labor had pledged $1 million to the foundation during that year’s state election campaign. Mr Crisafulli, then Opposition Leader, visited the foundation’s Howard Street supermarket during the campaign with Mr Hunt.
At the opening, Treasurer David Janetzki said the funding complemented the government’s $20 million annual investment through the Social Entrepreneurs Fund.
The foundation’s low-cost food outlet recorded more than 45,000 customer visits in the past year, according to the Queensland Government. It also supported almost 3000 people through its emergency relief program and distributed 33,000 free meals.
Director Jonathan Gullo said the opening marked the start of the foundation’s next chapter. He said the building gave the foundation room to grow alongside increasing demand for food relief, after more than 20 years of serving the community.
General Manager Karen Gullo said the foundation wanted the people it supports to know they are not facing their problems alone.
The Everyday Foundation’s Jonathan Gullo and Chloe Gullo, Queensland Premier David Crisafulli, Nicklin MP Marty Hunt and Karen Gullo, celebrate the organisation’s new Currie Street facility.
