For over 25 years, Woombye based skin cancer specialist, Dr Peter O’Hara has diagnosed, treated, and managed skin cancer, and in doing so, has educated his patients to take care of their skin.

“As a Doctor with 25 years of full time experience in skin cancer diagnosis and treatment, I love my work,” Dr O’Hara said.

“I believe my patients appreciate my knowledge and genuine interest in the field of skin cancer, my professional integrity, the warmth and open communication I use, and the holistic approach I have to all their skin issues.”

Dr O’Hara attended the University of Sydney and is an AHPRA registered specialist who has also previously fulfilled a role as an honorary lecturer at the University of Queensland, in skin cancer medicine.

“Over the course of my career, I have diagnosed and treated in excess of 2,500 melanomas and 25,000 nonmelanoma skin cancers,” he said.

“In this field of medicine, continuing education and professional development is imperative to achieving better outcomes for my patients and I think it gives my patients a great deal of confidence to know that I have post graduate qualifications in dermatology and dermoscopy, skin cancer medicine and surgery.

“I constantly upgrade my skin cancer knowledge through education courses, and by liaising with my peers, and I have access to all the latest diagnostic techniques, digital imaging, and light treatments,” he explained.

Dr O’Hara has been practicing with the SunDoctor Group for the past eight years, and says it is a practice group that is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer with streamlined, doctor-led processes and excellent facilities and equipment.

“The Doctors at the SunDoctor skin cancer clinics are extensively trained and leaders in the field of skin cancer,” said Dr O’Hara.

“SunDoctors clinics are integrated with a specialised pathology laboratory focusing exclusively on skin, and each Doctor has direct access to our team of highly esteemed dermatopathologists to discuss the best results for our patients. So our patients can be confident that they are receiving world class care and advice when it comes to their skin.”

Treatments for common issues

Dr O’Hara can perform skin checks, biopsies, cryotherapy and diathermy, excisions, flaps and grafts.

“I can also treat common dermatological problems including eczema, psoriasis, impetigo, skin tags and age spots,” he said.

Dr O’Hara’s patients hail from all over the Sunshine Coast, from Eumundi to Buderim, and the hinterland as far west as Kenilworth, and have been treated by him at his Nambour clinic, previously based in C-Square.

“With the redevelopment of C-Square, I have had to move my practice and now will be practicing from other SunDoctor Group consulting rooms around the coast,” Dr O’Hara said.

“But I am looking forward to taking care of my patients in new surroundings.”

Dr O’Hara will be continuing to offer skin cancer checks, biopsies, light therapies, surgical and nonsurgical treatments, cosmetic treatments and looking after a range of dermatological problems.

And don’t let the change of location put you off taking care of your skin.

“Get your skin checked,” Dr O’Hara urged. “It could very well save your life.”
