Business Feature: Sharon Taylor Tax & Bookkeeping
Navigating tax laws and obligations can be challenging and stressful unless you can count on the right advice from a seasoned tax professional.
Nambour’s Sharon Taylor launched her bookkeeping business in 2007 and after completing her Associate Degree in Commerce, she became a registered tax agent in 2010.
“I started my business, Sharon Taylor Tax & Bookkeeping shortly after and it has been so rewarding to help my clients reach their personal and business goals,” Sharon said.
Since then, Sharon’s practice has grown steadily, and she now leads a team of seven dedicated professionals who work with individuals and business people from all industries and walks of life.
“The practice has grown mostly through word of mouth and personal recommendations,” said Sharon.
“I think that is the highest compliment we could receive.”
Sharon believes much of her success comes down to the relationships she and her team have built over the years.
“People’s financial lives are not black and white, like numbers on a spreadsheet,” she said.
“There’s often a lot of hesitation when people open up about their personal or business matters. We’re very aware of that, and our team focuses on supporting, not judging. I’ve had clients leave saying they feel a sense of relief, and that’s a huge compliment – it shows they feel comfortable, supported and truly heard.”
“Our office is based in the hinterland and has a warm, welcoming feel. We avoid confusing language with our clients – they really appreciate that. I think using complicated terms can be intimidating, so we don’t do it.
The firm works with small business owners of all types, including Sole Traders, Companies, Trusts and Partnerships. They use both MYOB and Xero software to streamline processes.
“I started out using MYOB but over time it became clear that Xero was much more user-friendly for our clients, so we gradually shifted more in that direction,” Sharon explained.
Sharon and her team assist with tasks such as data entry, reconciliations, IAS, BAS, superannuation, Qleave, Workcover, tax planning and tax lodgements.
“Our services are completely tailored to each person’s situation and can be scheduled monthly, quarterly, yearly or more often if required,” said Sharon.
“We work closely with every client to ensure they meet their requirements of the Australia Taxation Office and feel confident that everything is on track and taken care of.”

Too busy? Why a good bookkeeper is worth every cent
A bookkeeper manages a business’s day-to-day financial transactions, ensuring accurate record-keeping and reporting.
“Using the services of a qualified and experienced bookkeeper allows business owners to focus on what they do best in their business,” Sharon said.
“More often than not, business owners tell us that they find the financial aspect of their business intimidating and stressful. But it really needn’t be that way.”
A bookkeepers responsibilities include recording transactions, maintaining financial records, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial reports. They also handle accounts payable and receivable, prepare invoices and billing statements, and manage payroll. Additionally, bookkeepers prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) for GST and other tax obligations.
“We can also communicate with the ATO on behalf of our clients to resolve discrepancies or address inquiries related to tax matters,” said Sharon.
“This takes an enormous amount of stress away from many of our clients.”
