Fit Kat muscles into business honour

Fit Kat owner Kat Wilkinson accepts the Nambour Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month award from vice-president Brian Bugenhagen.

Fit Kat brought its trademark energy to the Nambour Chamber of Commerce Coffee Catch-up after being named the chamber’s Business of the Month.

Owner Kat Wilkinson had attendees on their feet for 10 squats before accepting the award, after the women’s gym was nominated by previous recipient Sunshine Valley Gazette.

Ms Wilkinson said Fit Kat had never been only about exercise. “It was never just about fitness,” she said. “It was about creating a safe space – a safe space for women, for kids to come in and be part of the community.”

Chamber vice-president Brian Bugenhagen said the rotating award recognised businesses doing exceptional work. Each recipient chooses the next business to hold the trophy.

Ms Wilkinson nominated Golf Programs Australia, led by Darrell and Michelle Dalton, as the next recipient.

“They’ve built more than a golf program,” she said. “They build hope, confidence and opportunities for people living with intellectual disabilities.”

She said the organisation was changing lives every week and Nambour was a better place because of its work.
