Gym owner calls for cameras after scissors scare

A Nambour gym owner has called for stronger action on antisocial behaviour after a scissors incident left a young coach feeling unsafe at work.

Fit Kat owner Kat Wilkinson raised the Price Street incident in front of federal, state and local representatives at the Nambour Chamber of Commerce Coffee Catch-up on August 6.

Police allege a 36-year-old Nambour woman armed with scissors threatened people along Price Street on June 30. Officers took her into custody without incident and no physical injuries were reported.

The woman was charged with going armed to cause fear and threatening violence.

Ms Wilkinson thanked officers from the Nambour Police Beat for responding quickly, but said the incident exposed a wider problem for CBD businesses.

“It’s unacceptable for a 19-year-old coach in a safe space and safe environment to feel unsafe,” she said.

Ms Wilkinson called for cameras and measures to curb antisocial behaviour, saying other businesses were also affected.

She appealed to political and business leaders to work together to make Nambour “stronger, safer and more connected”.
