Community awards sell out after 3500 votes

An awards night celebrating people who go above and beyond for the Nicklin community has sold out after attracting more than 235 nominations and 3500 votes.

Nicklin MP Marty Hunt said the response to the inaugural Above and Beyond Awards had overwhelmed organisers.

“We wanted to do something positive this year, celebrate our community,” he told the Nambour Chamber of Commerce Coffee Catch-up on August 6.

“We were absolutely overwhelmed at the response.”

The event will be held at Nambour RSL on August 15. Mr Hunt said tickets sold quickly and standing room had been opened to ensure finalists could attend.

Chamber members among the finalists included Fit Kat, Golf Programs Australia, Kairos Community College, Lutheran Services’ Graceville Centre, Burnside State High School’s STEM program, Power Curve Automotive, Jodie Chatillon, Nambour Grown Community Garden, the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show Society and Jenny McKay.

Mr Hunt thanked sponsors Sundale, Bendigo Community Bank Woombye, Nambour Chamber of Commerce, Sunshine Valley Gazette and Century 21.

“This is going to be a wonderful celebration of our community,” he said.
