‘Life-changing amount of money’: Insurance service puts fine print first

A Nambour business is taking aim at the confusion of insurance renewals by comparing policy details and prices for customers.

Fair Go Insurance Research founder Lindsey Standel said her independent, client-funded service compared inclusions and quotes from up to 10 insurers without accepting commissions or selling policies.

“We do the hard yards for you,” she told the Nambour Chamber of Commerce Coffee Catch-up on August 6.

Customers complete one form and receive a comparison document setting out matters such as excesses, fees, covered events, liabilities, support and benefits.

Ms Standel said free comparison websites could earn substantial commissions and often provided little detail about what policies included.

She said one recent Buderim client had received a home and contents renewal of more than $19,000. Research across 10 companies returned 16 policies below that renewal, with potential savings of up to $12,000.

“She literally told me it was a life-changing amount of money for her family,” Ms Standel said.

The business currently researches home and contents, contents cover for strata owners and comprehensive car insurance, with landlord insurance planned.

Ms Standel said the flat-fee model meant there were no sales calls, pressure to switch or obligation to buy.
