Come and see me this weekend at  Queensland Garden Show

Hinterland Homesteading by Racheal Pascoe

All the gardeners amongst us are getting very excited this week, as the Queensland Garden Show approaches this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Nambour Showgrounds! Each year it is a wonder of all things gardening and so much more!

On  Saturday 12th July and Sunday 13th July I will be speaking about Homesteading! If you enjoy reading my column and would love to hear more, then please come and join me.

Well actually, I am worried that it will just be my husband Gavin and my Mum in the audience, so if you wouldn’t mind coming along to boost numbers that would be terrific! Hee hee.

I will be talking about all sorts of our favourite topics like keeping backyard chickens, growing food and ways to store and process food. At home we endeavour to put our energy into the homemade. We enjoy our own sausages, coleslaw and sauerkraut from our own cabbages, dehydrated fruits, growing flowers, incubating eggs and lots more. I am certainly not an expert, but I am super excited to share some of what I have learned along the way and also to learn from you too.

I would love to share with you some of my successes and also failures.

It is important to know that homesteading involves a lot of learning on the job. I have some gritty stories to tell and also some advice to pass along.

If you are interested in a homesteading lifestyle, then please consider this your personal invitation to come and listen to me talk this weekend! I will tell you all about my glamorous life in gumboots, chasing chickens, raising kids and celebrating all the wins and also the days when it doesn’t go quite to plan. You can find out more about the event at www.qldgardenshow.com.au

If you are looking for me, I will be at the Queensland Country Bank Stage at 12noon both Saturday and Sunday. I look forward to meeting you all on the weekend!

Community Garden Ramble – Fri & Sat

You might also like to join Sophie Thomson from Gardening Australia and I, at 1.30pm on Friday and 10.30am on Saturday for a walk through the Nambour Grown Community Garden and learn about the benefits of getting involved with community gardening. The meeting point for the ramble will be inside the main gates. See you there.
