‘Hold the Light’ event to honour babies and children gone too soon
Monique with Elena (2025).
Suncoast Church welcomes members of the Sunshine Coast community to a night of remembrance and reflection, dedicated to individuals and families who have experienced pregnancy, infant and child loss.
Held in recognition of International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, Hold the Light offers a space to honour our little ones who remain forever loved.
Throughout the evening, guests are invited to move through the spaces in their own time - places created for quiet remembrance, reflection and, if desired, prayer - with no set order and no expectations.
For organiser Monique Galler, the event is deeply personal and her way of helping provide a space for families to process the feelings of grief, loss and intense love that come with losing a child.
Mrs Galler and her husband Stephen know those feelings all too well. Two of their three children, Elena and Archer, passed away shortly after birth due to unrelated terminal conditions.
"Hold the Light grew from the love that remains after pregnancy, infant and child loss - a love that carries us through even the hardest days,” Mrs Galler said.
“We wanted to create a space where bereaved individuals and families could feel seen, supported and less alone in their heartache - a quiet, gentle place to honour their children and stand with others in shared strength and compassion.
“At its core, Hold the Light is a reminder that even in grief, light can still be held.”
The event is open to everyone regardless of faith or background - bereaved individuals and families, their loved ones, and community members who wish to stand with, and support, them.
Tea and coffee will be available, child-minding is provided, and members of the Suncoast Team will be there if guests would like someone to listen, sit or pray with them.
