Local club wins gong as Queensland’s most outstanding regional golf facility
Maleny Golf Club has capped off a momentous year by being named Most Outstanding Queensland Club, Facility or Place to Play (Regional) at the 2026 Queensland Golf Industry Awards in Brisbane on Thursday night October 8.
The prestigious award recognises the club’s significant achievements since opening its first nine holes for play in 2015 and follows the official launch in late September of its new $1.77 million clubhouse – almost half of which was financed by loans from members.
Maleny Golf Club President Matt Caffery said attaining such a high level of industry recognition marked the culmination of years of dedication by many past and present members and a source of enormous pride for all associated with the club.
“I’m hoping everyone takes a little time to reflect on the commitment, tenacity and belief you’ve contributed to making Maleny officially now the best regional golf club in Queensland,” he said.
“Awards like this don’t happen because of one person or one great idea. They are the result of a lot of people caring about the club, backing each other, persevering when things don’t go to plan, and continuing to believe we can and will make our club better.”
The award marks a significant milestone for the club and Maleny’s community - highlighting the important role regional golf clubs play in bringing people together, supporting participation and strengthening connections through sport.
Maleny Golf Club General Manager Doug Evans said winning the award was a tremendous achievement for Maleny Golf Club which had only just completed the final six holes of its high-quality, 18-hole course in 2020 when the COVID pandemic hit.
“This award truly reflects the dedication of our team, the support of our members, volunteers and the broader community, and our ongoing commitment to providing a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all who visit – whether to play golf or just enjoy the view from the deck,” he said.
“We are incredibly proud to represent Maleny and the wider Sunshine Coast Hinterland on the Queensland stage. This award belongs to everyone who contributes to our club and helps to make it such a special place.”
The Queensland Golf Industry Awards bring together the golf industry to recognise excellence across clubs, facilities, professionals, volunteers and other contributors to the sport.
Maleny Golf Club’s success reinforces its position as a valued part of the local community and celebrates the collective effort required to deliver a quality golfing experience in regional Queensland.
Club Secretary Andrew Johnson, who played a pivotal role in project-managing delivery of the new clubhouse, was among the finalists for the award of Board Member of Year.
One of the club’s longstanding members and course volunteers, Hans van Sambeek, who passed away suddenly earlier this year, was also recognised as a finalist for the award of Volunteer of the Year.
The club extends its thanks to members, staff, volunteers and supporters for their continued contribution to its success.
