A new team of trustees has taken over stewardship of the Mapleton Community Hall and sports grounds, paying tribute to decades of volunteer service while pledging to preserve the much-loved community assets for generations to come.
The four new trustees – Andrea Walker, Nita C Lester, John Roza and Tony Brett – were introduced at a gathering of hall neighbours, permanent tenants, hirers and community representatives.
In a presentation marking the handover, the incoming trustees acknowledged the extraordinary contribution of retiring trustees Lindsey, Maree and Brett, along with the many past trustees who have cared for the hall and grounds over the years.
They paid particular tribute to Lindsey and her family, saying four generations – including her father Bob, husband Terry and son Brett – had devoted decades to maintaining the facilities.
“When the sun was blazing, you were here. When the rain was pouring, you were here,” the trustees said.
“Because of your enormous effort, your tireless hours, and your meticulous care, Mapleton has facilities of an incredibly high standard.
“You didn’t just maintain a building and a field; you preserved a place for our community to gather.”
The new trustees are responsible for caring for the hall and grounds with a commitment to maintaining the high standard established by their predecessors.
The group said its members brought a broad range of experience, including connections with the local music community, community organisations, non-profit groups and the wider hinterland.
They said those skills would help ensure the hall remained a vibrant and welcoming community hub while building strong partnerships with tenants, hirers and neighbours.
“With these diverse skills driving us forward, we foresee an engaging, bright and sustainable future for this vital element of Mapleton,” they said.
