30 riders: Woombye to honour Beersheba bravery, October 26

Up to 30 riders are expected to take part in a troop parade through Woombye from 10am

The 2nd Light Horse Regiment – Woombye Troop will lead a community commemoration in honour of the famous mounted charge at the Battle of Beersheba on Sunday October 26.

This year marks the 108th anniversary of the historic First World War battle, remembered for the bravery and horsemanship of the Australian Light Horse.

Up to 30 horses are expected to take part in a troop parade through Woombye from 10am, followed by a memorial service at Woombye Memorial Park at 10.15am.

After the service, visitors are invited to the nearby Light Horse Park Museum to share in tea, damper, ANZAC biscuits and a traditional sausage sizzle.

The annual commemoration is a family-friendly, all-ages event that offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who served.

• The Beersheba Day Commemoration is on Sunday October 26 from 10am in Woombye. Proudly supported by Community Bank Woombye & Districts, Bendigo Bank.
