New divisional president to help shape future of funerals in Queensland

Funerals Australia has announced the appointment of Luke Gregson from the Sunshine Coast’s longest established funeral directors, Gregson & Weight Funerals, as the new Queensland Divisional President, representing funeral professionals across Queensland.

Luke Gregson, a fifth generation funeral director, brings over 25 years of experience to the role and has been an active member of Funerals Australia, through his roles as a committee member and vice president.

As Divisional President, Luke will work closely with members, industry stakeholders and the Funerals Australia National Council to strengthen professional standards, support education and development and advocate on issues affecting funeral professionals and the families they serve.

Mr Gregson said their priorities continue to be improving and developing regulation, supporting regional funeral businesses and increasing professional development opportunities.

“I am pleased and honoured to serve as President of the Queensland division of Funerals Australia, to give something back to an industry that is an important part of my life and an oppurtunity to help and support our members maintain the highest of standards for the local communities they serve”

Funerals Australia National President Asha Dooley welcomed the appointment and said Divisional Presidents play an important role in ensuring the views and experiences of members are represented.

“Our Divisional Presidents are closely connected to the funeral businesses and communities they represent. They provide an important link between our members, stakeholders and the national Association, while helping to identify the issues and opportunities affecting funeral service in their region.”

The appointment comes at an important time for the funeral profession, with changing community expectations and continued discussion around professional standards, regulation, workforce development and education.

Mr Gregson said he was looking forward to working with the Queensland Divisional Council and members throughout his term.

Funerals Australia also thanked outgoing Divisional President Mr Scott Harris for his leadership and contribution during his term.
