Maleny Singers brave the rain, prepare for Pagliacci

Despite a drizzly Anzac Day service on 25 April, the Maleny Singers lifted spirits at the Maleny RSL’s ceremony, their voices cutting through the rainy morning air to honour the fallen. “It was a soggy ceremony, but our choir was determined to deliver a heartfelt tribute,” said President Colin Dunn.

Now, the choir is turning its full attention to its major mid-year production: Ruggero Leoncavallo’s one-act opera Pagliacci.

Following the acclaim of their 2023 staging of Cavalleria Rusticana, Maleny Singers have teamed up once again with director Kim Kirkman and the Inspiration Project Choir. Audiences can expect “a glorious blend of drama and comedy, soaring arias and stirring choruses,” Dunn said. Highlights include the emotional “Vesti la Giubba” and the haunting “Prologue,” performed live with a 22-piece orchestra, guest soloists and the choir’s own local talent.

• Pagliacci runs at 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, 14–15 and 21–22 June. Tickets will be available via the Maleny Singers website and at the door.
