A Sunshine Coast mother and her children rebuilding their lives after domestic violence will have greater independence thanks to a local man who has donated his car.
Bradley Schafer, from Legacy Insurance, donated the vehicle through Sunshine Coast charity Aus Living Support at its Nambour Op Shop on Monday, October 26.
The donation will provide the family with reliable transport for everyday needs, including getting the children to school, attending appointments and accessing employment opportunities.
For a family starting over after domestic violence, having a car can remove some of the practical barriers to regaining independence and stability.
Mr Schafer said he wanted to make a practical contribution to the local community.
"I wanted to offer practical support to our community. Access to a car can mean greater independence and make it easier to access opportunities and stay connected with support.
"I am grateful to the charity's for helping us make this contribution."
Aus Living Support CEO Ian Harrison said the donation was an example of how local people could make a meaningful difference to families experiencing hardship.
"When a mother and her children escape domestic violence, they often face the overwhelming challenge of starting their lives again.
"Things many of us take for granted can suddenly become enormous obstacles."
Mr Harrison said practical assistance was an important part of helping families regain their independence.
"This is what Aus Living Support is all about. It's locals helping locals, standing beside families when they need it most and showing them that their community genuinely cares."
Established in 2018, Aus Living Support is a grassroots Sunshine Coast charity supporting vulnerable families, domestic violence survivors, children and people experiencing homelessness or financial hardship.
Since its establishment, the organisation has delivered more than $1.92 million in direct local assistance to families across the Sunshine Coast and surrounding communities.
Through its community-funded assistance programs and op shops in Nambour and Maroochydore, the charity provides practical support to people facing difficult circumstances.
The donated vehicle is one example of that assistance, providing a family with a practical means of managing everyday responsibilities while rebuilding their lives.
