Book fair brings Mapleton community together
A vibrant sense of community was on full display last weekend as the Mapleton Library Community Centre hosted a successful book fair and mini market, drawing a steady stream of residents and visitors throughout the morning.
From the early hours, the venue buzzed with activity as neighbours and friends gathered to browse, chat and reconnect over freshly brewed coffee and the ever-popular Lions Club barbecue.
The aroma of sizzling burgers added to the welcoming atmosphere, creating a relaxed space where conversations flowed as easily as the coffee.
The event offered more than just a chance to pick up a good read. Attendees embraced the opportunity to network and meet new members of the community, strengthening local connections in a warm and inclusive environment.
Many visitors remarked on the friendly, social nature of the morning, with plenty of opportunities to pause, chat and enjoy the surroundings.
Book lovers were impressed by the quality of the selection on offer. A wide range of titles, spanning genres and age groups, ensured strong sales throughout the event.
The cake stall also proved a major drawcard, with homemade treats quickly snapped up by eager patrons. Adding to the market’s appeal were unique retail items crafted by talented local artisans, showcasing the creativity and skill within the community.
The Lions Club played a vital role in the day’s success, keeping visitors well-fed with an all-morning barbecue and providing invaluable support with event set-up and pack-down.
Their contribution, alongside the Mapleton Gym and Men’s Shed and the efforts of numerous community volunteers, ensured the event ran smoothly from start to finish.
Organisers praised the dedication of volunteers who assisted throughout the morning, highlighting the strong spirit of cooperation behind the event.
“It truly was a team effort,” president Nita Lester said.
“The willingness of people to pitch in made all the difference.”
Beyond the lively atmosphere and strong attendance, the event also achieved its broader goal as an effective fundraiser.
Proceeds will support the continued operation of the Library Community Centre, helping to maintain essential services while also contributing towards a planned extension of the facility.
With such a positive turnout and enthusiastic community response, the book fair and mini market has set a strong precedent for future events, demonstrating the power of community connection, shared effort and a good burger enjoyed among friends.
