Nambour parcel services to stay despite delivery centre move
Australia Post says changes will not affect the customer-facing services relied on by local residents and businesses at the Perwillowen Road facility.
Nambour customers will still be able to access Australia Post retail and business services locally, despite the parcel sorting and delivery operation at Burnside being moved to a new facility at Caloundra.
Australia Post has clarified that the change affects the operational side of its Perwillowen Road site, not the customer-facing services relied on by local residents and businesses.
The Sunshine Coast Business Hub, which is co-located with the Nambour Delivery Centre at Burnside, will continue to support retail and business customers as normal while Australia Post works through its plans for the site.
An Australia Post spokesperson said a new purpose-built Sunshine Coast Parcel Facility would open later this year to support growing parcel demand across the region.
“As a result, all team members at the Nambour Delivery Centre, which is primarily used for parcel sorting and delivery, will transition to the new facility when it opens,” the spokesperson said.
“The Sunshine Coast Business Hub, which is co-located with the current Delivery Centre, will continue to support our retail and business customers as normal. Customers can also continue to use the nearby Nambour Post Office.”
The clarification follows community concern that the long-standing Australia Post site at Burnside was set to shut down completely.
However, Australia Post has indicated the move to Caloundra is an operational change involving the back-end parcel processing and delivery centre, rather than a withdrawal of local customer services.
Customers who use the business hub for posting, sending and other over-the-counter services are expected to continue to be supported in Nambour.
The Perwillowen Road site has operated as an Australia Post facility for decades and is a familiar landmark in Burnside.
Australia Post said team members from the delivery centre would transition to the upgraded parcel facility when it opens, with no job losses expected as part of the move.
