Mayoral Ball raises $100,000 to help families rebuild their lives

The tenth annual SunnyKids Mayoral Ball has raised an impressive $100,000 to help Sunshine Coast families escaping domestic and family violence find safety, stability and a fresh start.

More than 330 guests attended the gala event at the Machjet International hangar at Sunshine Coast Airport on Saturday, October 17, with proceeds supporting SunnyKids’ Transitional Housing Project.

The project provides safe accommodation alongside intensive case management and practical support, helping parents and children rebuild their lives and work towards independence.

SunnyKids CEO Kathleen Hope said escaping violence was often just the beginning of a family’s journey.

“When a family leaves domestic and family violence, getting to safety is the first priority. But a safe place to stay is only the beginning,” Ms Hope said.

“Families also need time, practical support and someone alongside them as they rebuild their lives. Our Transitional Housing Project brings those elements together, helping parents and children work towards a safer, more stable future.

“Saturday was a wonderful night, but its impact will be felt by local families long after the hangar doors close.”

The evening brought together business leaders, philanthropists and community supporters for fine dining, aerial performances, auctions and raffles, surrounded by Machjet’s luxury aircraft.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli praised the community’s generosity.

“For ten years, the Mayoral Ball has brought our community together to make a difference for local children and families,” Mayor Natoli said.

“The generosity in the room on Saturday night was extraordinary. Every contribution will help SunnyKids support families taking their next steps towards safety and independence.”

Ms Hope thanked Machjet International, sponsors, donors and volunteers, saying the Ball was also an important opportunity to introduce new supporters to SunnyKids.

“That ongoing support strengthens the village around local children and families.”

SunnyKids supports thousands of Sunshine Coast children and families experiencing violence and hardship each year.
