Acclaimed Muses Trio to make Maleny debut with powerful program of works
The Maleny Arts Council is set to welcome the acclaimed Muses Trio for their debut performance in its annual concert series, with a Sunday matinee on 29 June at the Maleny Community Centre.
Described as “spine tingling” and “virtuosic,” Muses Trio brings together three of Australia’s most accomplished contemporary classical musicians — Christa Powell (violin), Louise King (cello), and Therese Milanovic (piano). The ensemble is known for its commitment to championing music composed by women and delivering performances that are emotionally engaging and artistically refined.
Maleny Arts Council President Claire Booth said the group’s focus on accessible, high-quality music aligned closely with the Council’s vision. “This is the first time we’ve presented the Muses Trio as part of our annual program, and we’re delighted to share this powerful and memorable musical experience with our community,” she said.
The concert program will feature works from the trio’s 10th anniversary album, 10 Years, which recently featured as an ABC Classic FM feature album. The selection draws on a wide variety of musical influences — from classical and chamber music to jazz, big band, and film scores — offering broad appeal to seasoned concertgoers and new audiences alike.
In addition to their live performances, Muses Trio has released several critically acclaimed albums including The Spirit and the Maiden, Celebrating Clara, and Music for Calm and Catharsis. Their work also features on ABC Classic’s Women of Note compilation series.
Tickets are available now through www.malenyartscouncil.com for the 2pm Sunday 29 June performance.
The Muses Trio’s appearance marks a major highlight of the 2025 season and promises to be a unique musical celebration of women’s contributions to contemporary classical music.
