The Nambour Chamber of Commerce’s February 5 Coffee Catch Up doubled as a celebration of local confidence and community spirit, with Fit Kat Bootcamp founder Kat Wilkinson opening the doors of her new Price Street premises and local MP Marty Hunt delivering an optimistic message on safety and renewal in the town centre.

Held at Fit Kat’s new home at 44 Price Street, the meeting marked a major milestone for Kat and her husband Dave, who have bought the building, will live in half of it and operate the gym from the other – a move Kat said was a statement of belief in Nambour’s future.

“Welcome to our new space. Welcome to 44 Price Street. This is going to be us from now on,” she told the room. “It honestly means the world to see so many faces – people who genuinely care about our town.”

Ms Wilkinson said Fit Kat was built on community, belonging and safety. “A place where women can walk in exactly the way they are and know they belong – no judgement, no intimidation.”

She said winning the Community Champion Award at the 2025 Sunshine Coast Community Gala & Awards – recognising years of grassroots work supporting women’s health, confidence and connection in Nambour – was one of the proudest moments of her life.

“We are very open about the fact that we want this area to feel safe, not just for our members, but for everyone around us,” she said, thanking police, council, chamber representatives and state MPs for working together on safety and collaboration. “Safety matters, community matters, and collaboration is how we get there.”

Nicklin MP Marty Hunt echoed that optimism, telling business owners he was “very excited” about the year ahead for Nambour, with community safety his clear priority.

“My first priority was community safety because that’s what people were telling me,” Mr Hunt said. He outlined progress on the permanent police beat in the CBD, CCTV upgrades with live feeds to police, changes to laws, and increased housing and homelessness support.

“We’ve housed 22 people and helped dozens more, and there’s a lot going on,” he said, adding that further announcements on supported accommodation and a homelessness hub were expected in coming weeks.

Chamber vice-president Brian Bugenhagen congratulated Ms Wilkinson on Fit Kat’s championship award, calling it “the culmination of many years of extremely hard work”, while new and existing members heard brief updates from local businesses, council economic development staff and chamber representatives.

With strong turnout of more than 60 members, and an upbeat tone, the meeting reinforced a message heard repeatedly through the morning: local investment, collaboration and confidence are building momentum in Nambour.
