Serving up kindness every Friday

For more than a quarter of a century, Friday Night Burgers has been providing food, friendship and practical assistance to people experiencing hardship in Nambour.

And according to volunteer Coral McVean, the program has never missed a Friday — not even when Christmas Day or Easter falls on one.

Established in 2000 by a Baptist Church youth group near the railway station, the program was subsequently taken over by the Anglican Parish of Nambour.

It now relies on volunteers, fundraising and donations from businesses and community organisations.

Woombye bakery supplies bread and leftover pastries, while local residents sometimes contribute fresh fruit.

Some volunteers live with disabilities themselves but are eager to help others in need.

The program also provides an opportunity for people experiencing homelessness to connect with support services, including IFYS.

The Nambour Community Foundation's latest grant will help cover essential food supplies.

Friday Night Burgers representative Coral McVean, right, with Carol Trevor, thanked the Nambour Community Foundation for its continuing support of the long-running community outreach program.
