Helping families rebuild after violence

For women and children escaping domestic and family violence, reaching safety can be only the beginning of a long recovery.

That is the experience behind Somewhere to Go Foundation, a new Maroochydore community centre supporting women and children after the immediate crisis has passed.

Founder Yentl Skewes told the Nambour Community Foundation's grants presentation that she had personally experienced the difficult journey of rebuilding a life after domestic violence.

She said much of the available funding was directed towards crisis intervention, leaving survivors to navigate years of recovery with limited assistance.

The foundation aims to fill that gap by providing community connections, friendships and supportive programs.

The $4200 grant will provide resources for an art therapy studio operated by Jean, helping women and children process trauma in a calm, non-confrontational environment.

Yentl Skewes & Jean from Somewhere to Go Foundation accept the cheque from Wayne Greenham.
