Helping families facing childhood cancer

Three Sunshine Coast families caring for children with rare cancers are among those who could benefit from a $5,000 grant to the Leila Rose Foundation.

Representative Marie Sutton told the Nambour Community Foundation's anniversary gathering that the charity was established by Tracy and Andrew Chow following the death of their daughter Leila at just 10 months old.

The Melbourne-based organisation now supports more than 400 families across Australia, including families in Queensland.

Ms Sutton explained that caring for a seriously ill child often placed enormous financial pressure on parents, particularly when one must give up work.

The foundation provides practical assistance tailored to individual circumstances, including food vouchers and direct financial grants.

The Nambour funding will be directed towards families in the local area who need support.

Marie Sutton accepted a $5,000 grant from Scott Trevor for the Leila Rose Foundation, which supports families caring for children with rare cancers.
