Recycling pop-ups will appear at Nambour Plaza to answer your tricky bin questions
Nambour Plaza shoppers will have the chance to ask their toughest recycling questions this May and July, as Council staff host interactive pop-ups in the centre.
Sunshine Coast Council is bringing its recycling knowledge directly to the public with a series of in-person pop-ups, including two at Nambour Plaza: May 26–30 and June 30–July 4, from 9am to 3pm.
The initiative, supported by the Queensland Government’s Recycling and Jobs Fund, aims to take the confusion out of kerbside recycling by providing clear, accessible answers in a convenient setting.
Environment and Liveability Portfolio Councillor Maria Suarez said the program would help residents feel confident about what to put in each bin.
“These recycling pop-ups are located at local shopping centres, where people can conveniently stop by to ask their questions,” Cr Suarez said. “It’s another way Council is working with our community to nurture and enhance our environment and quality of life.”
Visitors to the Nambour Plaza pop-ups will be able to ask questions like whether aerosol cans, lids, and Tetra Paks belong in the yellow-lid bin—some of the most common queries heard so far.
Many residents are surprised to learn that aluminium and steel household aerosols are recyclable, as long as they’re empty.
The stalls will include a hands-on sorting game for kids and curious adults, alongside practical tools like collection calendars, bin stickers, and miniature truck models to build.
