‘We need you’: Veterans urged to help secure RSL’s future

Palmwoods RSL Sub-Branch (Chapter) is calling on all local veterans and community members to help secure its future as declining membership places increasing pressure on the organisation.

The organisation is seeking veterans from Palmwoods and surrounding areas, as well as social members, who want to support its ongoing work, which is to maintain a strong local connection for former service personnel, within the Palmwoods community.

Sunshine Coast & Regional District President Mr Grendell Antony said membership numbers across all Sub-Branches has dwindled due to death and the failing health of the longer serving members who volunteer.

The contact person for Palmwoods RSL Sub-Branch (Chapter) is Peter Duncombe. Mr Duncombe said veterans of all ages and Branches of Service were encouraged to consider joining the existing Palmwood’s veterans and social members who volunteered their time to assist it to remain a presence within their community.

He said veterans and social member volunteers were the ‘life blood’ of the RSL and their support was a major asset and resource for organisation.

Palmwoods RSL Sub-Branch (Chapter) has been an integral part of the Palmwoods Community for many generations, he said. “It has been a source of support for veterans and their families through providing welfare services and for Commemorative Events such ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day.”

Volunteers can be become involved in various activities within the Chapter, which can include welfare support, fundraising, and assistance with events (both commemorative and social).

The Sub-Branch meets at 9am in the Community Hall, Main Street Palmwoods on the first Sunday of the month.  The contact person for Palmwoods RSL Sub-Branch (Chapter) is Peter Duncombe, Phone Number:  0409 186 607.
