Stamp fair to bring collectors to Nambour CBD

The king of hobbies, or the “Hobby of Kings” as one might say, stamp collecting is an art in itself.

And the Sunshine Coast Stamp Club will host its Regional Stamp Fair at the CWA Hall in Short Street, Nambour, on Sunday, July 5, from 8.30am–2pm.

Regional stamp clubs from Enoggera, Caloundra, Sunshine Coast and Gympie will attend, along with three professional stamp dealers.

Sunshine Coast Stamp Club president Michael Lean said the fair was a great opportunity for regional stamp collectors to come together to enjoy their favourite hobby while building their personal collections.

“Entry is free and members of the public are welcome, as are children accompanied by adults,” he said.

Activities will include the viewing and purchasing of stamps and philatelic items from club exchange books, professional dealers and a bargain table. Visitors can also bid on silent auction lots or obtain a free appraisal or estimate of their stamps.

“The silent auction and the bargain table provide an opportunity to pick up a real bargain or to find that stamp or set of stamps that will help fill a gap in a collection,” Mr Lean said. “There will literally be thousands of stamps on display for sale.”

A Silver Circle money board will also give visitors the chance to try their luck with a winning number on the day. Mr Lean encouraged anyone with stamps or a collection who was unsure of its worth to bring it along. “I suggest that people bring them along on the day and have one of our expert club members or a professional dealer give them a free appraisal or estimate of its value,” he said.

Refreshments will be available, with ample parking nearby and disabled access to the hall. The Sunshine Coast Stamp Club meets at the Red Cross Hall in Price Street, Nambour, at 1pm on the first Wednesday of each month from February to November. Visitors are welcome.
