Nambour’s streets and shopfronts were given a lift today as more than 100 volunteers joined civic leaders for the town’s Big Spring Clean.
Mayor Rosanna Natoli rolled up her sleeves alongside Nicklin MP Marty Hunt, Division 10 Councillor David Law, Nambour Chamber of Commerce president Mark Bray and Woombye Community and Business Association president Milo Frawley. Together with residents, families and local groups, they tackled a full day of jobs across the CBD – from rubbish removal and debris clearing to graffiti scrubbing, gurney cleaning and planting fresh flowers.
The removal of graffiti from buildings was especially striking, with many shopfronts looking noticeably brighter. Twelve concrete planter boxes were refreshed with colourful spring flowers, thanks to the efforts of volunteers and donations from local businesses.
“It was a fabulous session this morning,” said volunteer Racheal Pascoe from Nambour Grown community gardens. “We gardened alongside our Mayor Rosanna Natoli and got the 12 concrete planter boxes refreshed with colourful springtime plants. They look great. Thanks to the store manager Damien at Mitre 10 for donating the bags of compost. Thank you to Ryan and Ally from the Nambour Produce Agency for donating sugar cane mulch. And special thanks to our council & Rosanna for paying for $1000 worth of plants to brighten our town.”
The clean-up effort stretched from shopfronts to creeks, with one couple pulling eight abandoned shopping trolleys from Petrie Creek.
Organisers said the turnout showed the strength of local pride in Nambour and the willingness of residents to take ownership of the town’s appearance, including young Gabriel Kovac who picked up rubbish from his wheelchair.
“This was about doing something positive for Nambour,” Mr Hunt said. “Everyone who came out today has helped make a visible difference.”
The Nambour CBD Big Spring Clean was organised by I Am Nambour, the Nambour Chamber of Commerce and the Nambour Tramway Company, with support from Sunshine Coast Council and local businesses.
