New art short course at Nambour invites locals to get creative

Sunshine Coast locals are invited to unleash their creativity and explore artmaking through TAFE Queensland’s five-week Creative Juice short course in drawing, painting and collage, kicking off at the Nambour campus on Monday 19 October 2026.

The non-accredited short course offers an introduction to mixed media, giving participants the chance to experiment with drawing, painting and collage in a relaxed and supportive studio environment.

Delivered face-to-face one evening a week, the course invites students to explore colour, line, gesture, texture, layering and pattern using materials including graphite, charcoal, ink, acrylic paint and collage. Participants will work across still life, abstraction and landscape while discovering fresh ways to express themselves on paper.

TAFE Queensland visual arts teacher Kerry Wilson said the course was designed to help people reconnect with the creative impulse and let go of the pressure to make art that looks a certain way. “Creativity flows within everyone, and it often begins with something as simple as making a mark,” Ms Wilson said.

“This short course is about giving yourself permission to play, explore and enjoy the process. Whether you have always wanted to draw or you already have an established creative practice, there is something really freeing about working with different materials and seeing where they take you.”

With more than 30 years’ experience teaching and mentoring drawing and painting, Ms Wilson brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the classroom. A highly regarded landscape artist, she regularly exhibits her work on the Sunshine Coast, where she has lived for the past decade.

Ms Wilson said the course would suit complete beginners as well as experienced artists looking for new approaches.

“Art is literally at your fingertips,” she said. “This is a chance to build creative confidence, try something new, and discover just how liberating artmaking can be.”

The Creative Juice night class is open to people of all skill levels, with all materials included. Students who complete the non-accredited course will receive a Statement of Participation.

Course details: Creative Juice starts at TAFE Queensland’s Nambour campus on Monday 19 October 2026, running from 5pm to 8pm for five weeks. The full course fee is $390.
