New footpaths make life easier for Yandina families
Getting around Yandina on foot, bike, pram or scooter is now safer and easier thanks to a major upgrade of the town’s footpath network.
New concrete pathways are connecting key parts of town, giving residents — especially parents with prams, students, and mobility aid users — a smoother and safer way to travel to school, shops and parks.
Yandina and District Community Association (YADCA) President Marie Reeve said the improvements were badly needed.
“Yandina township is compact enough to make walking to school or town feasible but pedestrians with mobility devices or parents with children in prams or on bikes or scooters have found it difficult because of the lack of formed footpaths,” Ms Reeve said.
Recent works have delivered new paths along Coulson Road, Farrell Street, Steggalls Road and Buckle Street, with the speed limit also reduced from 70km/h to 60km/h on Steggalls Road to improve pedestrian safety.
Ms Reeve said the upgrades would make a real difference to daily life.
“It is wonderful to see the footpath network being upgraded as many road verges in town are unformed or grass,” she said.
“These upgrades will make walking to school or town safer and easier for pedestrians with wheels.”
Further improvements are in the pipeline, with grant applications lodged for a Ninderry Road pathway upgrade from School Road to Farrell Street. More funding bids are planned for later this year.
The footpath push is the result of strong collaboration between YADCA, Yandina State School P&C, Sunshine Coast Council, and Transport and Main Roads Queensland.
Locals can expect even better walking access across town as the plan to connect Yandina’s footpath network continues to roll out.
