Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek opened Yandina State School’s $10 million  multi-purpose hall last week with students, families and local dignitaries.

The hall was designed to serve both educational and community purposes and accommodates performing arts, sports activities including basketball and pickleball, and community events.

Principal Michael Cookman said the project took four years to complete and follows the school’s previous new administration building.

Minister Langbroek highlighted the facility’s role in expanding educational opportunities beyond traditional literacy and numeracy, noting students can now develop talents in music, dance, and sports within a purpose-built environment. The hall features professional audio-visual capabilities.

The opening ceremony featured performances by the school’s dance group “Sparklers” and concluded with the primary concert band under the direction of instrumental music teacher Christine Walton.

The school plans to share the space with the broader Yandina community. Students demonstrated the facility’s capabilities during the ceremony, with school captains welcoming guests and student technicians managing sound and lighting systems.

Mr Langbroek said the facility represented part of Queensland’s ongoing investment in a network of over 1200 state schools across the state.
