Mission Nutrition: giving students from OneSchool Global Nambour a hands-on educational experience to set them up for healthy lives
OneSchool Global (OSG) students have taken part in Mission Nutrition – a global initiative designed to educate and inspire while delivering a deeper understanding of nutrition and wellbeing.
OSG’s 30 students from Nambour joined 8,000 of their global peers for a full-day immersive learning experience, with Mission Nutrition taking place at more than 120 campuses across 20 countries.
The experience was tailor-made for OSG with the guidance of Caitlin Edmonds, an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist.
Ms Edmonds is based in Sydney and is involved in the delivery of nutrition programs for elite sporting teams.
“Mission Nutrition is a wonderful initiative to help students explore food, energy and wellbeing, and I am delighted to have worked with OneSchool Global on an initiative of this scale to create this shared learning journey,” said Ms Edmonds.
“Students will learn about how nutrition can support their education by giving them fuel to help them focus and learn, and the impact of food on their energy and wellbeing.”
OSG Australian Director of Education Paul Maher said the purpose of Mission Nutrition was to inspire and motivate students by giving them a shared experience.
“We wanted to really engage the attention of all of our students in Australia and across the globe, so we dedicated a full day of learning to Mission Nutrition, and enlisted the expertise of Caitlin,” said Mr Maher.
“OSG’s entire learning framework is founded on teaching our students the skills they need to set them up for their whole lives, and Mission Nutrition is a great example of that philosophy in action.
“We want to empower students with knowledge around nutrition, health and wellbeing, so they can apply it to their everyday lives in simple, achievable ways.”
Throughout the day students worked together to complete interactive assignments designed to build their knowledge and finished with a Final Mission using what they learned in a real-world context.
Mission Nutrition was tailored for three age groups, Years 3-6, Years 7-9 and Years 10-12, and designed around three core themes: Foundations of Nutrition, Food in the Modern World, and Healthy Habits for Life.
