Bowls club hosts charity event to get jiggy for a piggy
The Palmwoods Bowls Club will be buzzing with laughter, lawn bowls and good deeds on Sunday November 9, as locals roll in for the Get Jiggy for a Piggy barefoot bowls fundraiser.
Organised by Sunshine Coast businesswoman Catherine Molloy and her team, the event aims to raise much-needed funds to buy piglets for families in Uganda, helping some of the poorest communities build sustainable livelihoods.
“All proceeds go towards buying piglets for families in Uganda,” Ms Molloy said.
“These piggies change lives — providing food, income, and even schooling for children. It’s amazing how something so small can make such a big difference.”
The afternoon promises fun for all ages 12 and up, with trophies, raffles, games and a prize for the best team piggy name. Tickets are $25 per person, which includes entry, a sausage sizzle with Grandma’s secret onions, a bottle of water and a spot in a bowls team.
Players can register as individuals, pairs or groups of four, with the club making up teams on the day. Palmwoods Bowls Club is donating the greens and facilities, while local businesses are contributing meat, bread rolls and prizes.
Club spokesperson Sue Robertson said: “We’re proud to support Catherine and her team in this creative fundraiser. It’s a great community day that brings people together for a really good cause. Hopefully they'll get a nice big crowd and make heaps of money to buy piglets.”
• The fun kicks off at 12 noon at Palmwoods Bowls Club, Chevallum Road. Tickets and details via https://book.catherinemolloy.com.au/jiggy-home.
