Parkinson's Conference draws 400-plus to turn knowledge into action

More than 400 people living with Parkinson’s, their carers, and health professionals came together at Maroochy RSL for the Parkinson’s Conference – Sunshine Coast 2025, a day dedicated to turning knowledge into action.

Hosted by The Parkinson’s Centre, based at Forest Glen, the event attracted 338 in-person attendees, 70 online participants and 34 exhibitors, making it one of the largest gatherings of its kind in Queensland.

With the theme “Navigating Parkinson’s Together: From Knowledge to Action”, the conference focused on connection, collaboration, and the latest insights in research and care.

Presentations explored topics such as gut health, neuroplasticity, nutrition and medication timing, carer wellbeing, relationships, and environmental factors influencing Parkinson’s.

Expert speakers included Clyde Campbell AM, Associate Professor Richard Gordon, Dr Fiona Lithander, Dr Quentes de Vries, Dr Chris Padgham, Barbara Cullinan and Louise Faulkner.

Co-Founder Rory Cullinan said the response was overwhelming. “Our aim was to create a space where research, clinical insight, and lived experience could come together.

The enthusiasm, the collaboration, and the shared hope for the future were tangible throughout the day,” he said.

The event was proudly supported by Wellways Carer Gateway (Platinum Sponsor), Sundale, BlueCare, Maroochy RSL, Country to Coast QLD, and Sage Care Advice.

Co-organiser Tricia Olsen said the day left many feeling “seen, supported and empowered.”

To date, The Parkinson’s Centre has raised more than $150,000 for local Parkinson’s services and charities. The conference also highlighted the Parkinson’s Support Fund™, ensuring Sunshine Coast residents with Parkinson’s can access essential therapy and equipment.

Co-Founder Barbara Cullinan said: “This event showed what’s possible when compassion and collaboration come together. It’s just the beginning.”
