Welcome packs aim to keep new residents shopping local

A new “Welcome to Nambour” initiative is aiming to turn new arrivals into loyal local customers, with businesses banding together to showcase what the town has to offer from day one.
The Welcome Packs are being organised by Emma Powter from Power Curve Nambour. Emma told the February 5 Nambour Chamber of Commerce meeting the packs would be distributed through local real estates, with each new home sale accompanied by a curated selection of vouchers, gifts and samples from local businesses.
Emma said the idea was simple: make it easy for people moving into the area to discover and support Nambour businesses, rather than defaulting to shopping over the highway.
“We know people are going over the highway,” she said. “We want them to come here.”
The packs already include contributions such as free engine oil in your service with Power Curve Automotive, free plumbing health check from Hardy and Sons, and more, with organisers keen to broaden the mix to reflect the hinterland’s range of offerings.
Emma said the initiative was about collaboration rather than competition, encouraging businesses to work together to keep spending local.
“The idea is to get people who are moving to Nambour to use our local businesses,” she said. “We’re just trying to emphasise what we already have here — that our town is fantastic.”
Organisers are now calling on more businesses to get involved, particularly those able to offer tangible products.
“We’re hoping to attract businesses that can offer real product samples – especially local non-perishable food – to help make the Welcome Pack a more tangible and distinctly local experience,” Emma said.
