Dark comedy, Purgatory, to light up the Playhouse
The Maleny Players return to the stage this month with Purgatory — a riotously dark comedy by Darren Heskes — running from July 25 to August 3 at the Playhouse, Maleny Showgrounds.
Billed as “riotously dark” and sharp-edged, Purgatory brings together an ensemble cast of local talent in a production that promises laughs, discomfort and reflection in equal measure.
The cast includes Richard Janssen as Dr Mowbray and Kathryn Barnes as Matron, with Stewart Luke, Andrea Hosier and Claire Watkins appearing as Zoltan, Donica and Angela respectively.
With original words and music by Darren Heskes and a firm local following, Purgatory adds to the growing reputation of the Playhouse as a home for bold and engaging theatre in the hinterland.
Presented by the Maleny Players, the production will feature seven performances: Friday July 25th at 7pm; Saturday 26th at 2pm and 7pm; Wednesday 30th July 7pm; Friday August 1st at 7pm; Saturday August 2nd at 7pm; Sunday August 8th at 2pm. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 concession (ages 15+), available online at www.trybooking.com/DCQUU or in person at the Maleny Visitor Information Centre.
