Smart Pups to unleash local artist on shipping container

Smart Pups, a Sunshine Coast charity that trains assistance dogs for children with special needs, is holding a fun community day on Friday 11 September for families, businesses and animal lovers.

The Smart Pups Paint Party runs from 10am to 2pm at Smart Pups’ headquarters, 136 Verrierdale Rd, Verrierdale. The highlight of the day is a live mural painted by local artist Josh Wright straight onto the side of a shipping container.

There’ll be plenty to enjoy on the day, including a craft area for kids, puppy cuddles, giveaways and a sausage sizzle lunch. Smart Pups merchandise will also be available to buy or pre-order. Entry costs a $2 donation, and every visitor gets to add their paw print to Smart Pups’ Wall of Paws.

The event is open to the whole community, including local businesses and corporate groups looking to connect with a local charity, meet some of the dogs in training and see the organisation’s headquarters firsthand.

“We are excited about welcoming the local community to Smart Pups so people can connect with what we do, have some fun and see firsthand the first stages of the Smart Pups Community Shed,” said Sharni Pinder, Smart Pups’ Operations Manager.

All proceeds from the day go toward the development of the Smart Pups Community Shed, a space that will allow Smart Pups to engage with the community, welcoming school and disability groups on site, as well as enhancing their current training facilities.
