A feast of flowers awaits at Spring Orchid Expo
Rita Hand is surrounded by the wonderful colour of the Vanda Orchids grown by Richard Hand, who is editor of the Nambour Orchid Society’s monthly newsletter.

Orchids appeal to many people, not just the enthusiastic growers of a plant family with global distribution. This is evidenced by the large crowds that attend orchid shows — but why is that?
The obvious answer is that when an orchid flowers, it creates something uniquely captivating. It is a feast for the eyes and the imagination, with such incredible diversity within the orchid family. This results in beauty not only in flower shape and colour, but also in the range of foliage that supports the blooms — an appeal that resonates widely.
From the creations of nature (the naturally occurring species) to man-made progeny (the hybrids), there are upwards of 300,000 members of the world-wide orchid family — truly, a flower for everyone. From the tiniest blooms, best viewed with a magnifying glass, to plate-sized stunners that dazzle every time, orchids are a spectacular reward for their growers.
The gathering of orchid enthusiasts guarantees a sea of blooms, delivering a complete colour range — from the purest whites through the subtlest pinks, to the darkest reds, purples and blacks. This variety of colour, shape and size inspires many, often turning curious onlookers into committed growers.
To see such a stunning display in full bloom, why not visit the upcoming Spring Orchid Expo 2025, to be staged at Venue 114, 114 Sportsmans Parade, Bokarina, Sunshine Coast, on 6–7 September 2025.
The Expo is presented by the Nambour Orchid Society, celebrating 70 years of commitment to supporting new and experienced growers alike, and proudly raising funds for Cittamani Hospice Services.
