Have your say on Council’s new planning scheme

The Sunshine Coast community is being urged to have its say on the proposed Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme, which is now on public exhibition.

Sunshine Coast Council has opened consultation on the draft planning scheme, which outlines how the region will grow and evolve in the decades ahead. The fully web-based document allows residents to explore interactive maps and search their property address to see what the changes could mean for them.

Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the planning scheme was a major step in protecting the region’s lifestyle and managing future development.

“Council has listened to our community and worked hard to reflect what matters most – protecting our natural environment, maintaining our unique character and addressing public transport, traffic and parking, improving development outcomes and housing affordability,” Mayor Natoli said.

“This is your opportunity to see what’s proposed for your neighbourhood and the wider region – and to have your say.”

The proposed planning scheme covers building heights, zoning, housing, floodplain management, design standards and industrial land supply. It also introduces 18 new local plan areas and improved overlay mapping to protect environmental assets.

Among the proposed changes are targeted zoning and building height amendments to support housing supply near town centres, jobs and transport, and measures to ensure climate resilience and coastal hazard adaptation.

“It’s about the places where we live, work, learn and play,” Mayor Natoli said. “Whether you support the plan or have concerns, we want to hear from you.”

Community consultation will remain open until Friday, September 19, 2025.
